Chalk one up for the good guys

It's good to hear some good news coming out of Jamaica. Appearently there was a lot of extortion in Coronation Market in downtown Kingston. Well after the ringleader was arrested and found to have conducted homosexual acts with the person he is accused of killing, the gang now doesn't have as much pull anymore and the people are starting to stand up for themselves. This is great because many of the people selling thier goods are very poor and they need to keep all their money.

Heroes Day

I was talking to Janice last night and she was telling me how she was in Portmore by the seaside eating fish and festival, man I was jealous...I'm here in Brooklyn for a few more hours, it's about as close as I'm going to get to Jamaica for awhile. I must say thought that I've eaten some really good food. There is a place on flatbush called Jerk City which has some of the best oxtail I've had in a minute.

Fire for bullets - Gunmen hunt children with firebombs

When I read this article I was so upset. What is really going on Jamaica!??!

Bruce Golding is Jamaica's Prime Minister

Bruce Golding was sworn into office yesterday. I wish him the very best of luck. Like most countries, Jamaica has a lot of hurdles to overcome.

JPS has said that 80% of power has been restored. The four hardest hit parishes are Westmoreland, St. James, Hanover and Trelawny. Power to St Elizabeth is at 40% capacity. They expect power to be fully restored by September 9th. There are 988 people still remaining in shelters with most of those people in Clarendon, Kingston, St. Andrew.

Jamaican Radio Station

Here is a link to a Jamaican Radio Station. I've been listening to it since the hurricane hit. I feel like I'm on the island when I listen.

Can't wait to go home

I want to fly down to Jamaica with my grandmother. I heard that they are postponing the election. Yesterday I was hearing that Sept. 3 might be the date. Today, I'm hearing that they might postpone it to even longer. It'd be nice if they made a decision. I for one don't really want to be in Kingston during election time.

Hurricane Dean

Hurricane Dean is really barrelling down on Jamaica. It's supposed to hit on Sunday. I have a friend down there that I want to send some money to so she could buy some groceries, but I don't have much to send her and whatever I send her is not going to be enough...Man, that sucks!

Those crazy Jamaicans!

I don't really like being at work on Fridays. All I do is think about what I have planned for the weekend and I don't really get much done. What's the point of coming to work if you're not gonna work?

The Fourth was cool, went to a cookout at Abi's house. Some girl at the cookout tried to convince me and J that all Jamaicans were crazy because we're decendants of Nigerians. WTF!?! The funny part is that she is supposed to be smart with all of her advanced degrees. Whatever school she went to needs to give her a full refund.

96 degrees in the shade/White America

It's so hot outside. Thank goodness for the comforts of Air Conditioning. I'm gonna have to venture out soon. I'm getting hungry. I've been going to Chipotle a lot lately. The burrito bol is off da heezy! I'm gonna hit up this Jamaican place today though. It's called Taste of Jamaica. It's not like mom's but it's not too bad.

What I learned from this map: Mitchell County, Iowa is whitest place in America.

Long Day

Man today was a long day. It felt like a dream. I didn't really get much done.
